Research Science Vessel
The Federation Research Science Vessels (comprised of the Olympic, Hope and Horizon classes) are capable of both fleet support and solo reconnaissance missions. For use in both roles, these vessels have more advanced sensors and shielding than other ships of the same tier.
Players will be able to choose a Research Science Vessel once they achieve the rank of Commander 1. Like most Science ships, the Olympic, Hope, and Horizon have moderate maneuverability and crew ratings, falling between those of Heavy Escorts and Cruisers. The hull is relatively weak but is protected by enhanced shielding technology due to the vessel being of the Science classification. In addition, advanced sensor technology allows the detection of cloaked vessels and subsystem targeting which has proved to be a useful adversary in battle.
Subsystem targeting depends on your Auxiliary Power. Players can target an enemy's weapon, shield, engine, and auxiliary systems. Each one is on its own cooldown timer and are only effective on beam weapon hits.
